About the Festival

In 2022, India Foundation in association with the Ministry of Culture, Government of India & supported by Bangladesh- India Friendship Society, & India – Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce & Industry (IBCCI) organised the First Edition of the Silchar-Sylhet Festival on December 2-3, 2022 in the city of Silchar, Assam, with the avowed objective of reuniting the culturally homogenous population of Silchar and Sylhet by reviving historical, cultural, literary and business links. The festival was a great success and the popularity of the festival and the sentiment shared on both sides of the border were reflected by the eminent speakers and audience in attendance.

During the Festival 33 Speakers from India and Bangladesh addressed over 3000 participants, including 150 from Bangladesh. The event was graced by HE Shri Kambhampati Hari Babu, Hon’ble Governor of Mizoram, H.E. Dr A K Abdul Momen, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Bangladesh, Shri G Kishan Reddy, Union Minister for Culture, Tourism, & Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Dr Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, MoS External Affairs and Education, Shri Parimal Suklabaidya, Minister of Transport, Excise & Fisheries, Government of Assam, H.E. Mohmad Mustafizur Rahman, High Commissioner of Bangladesh to India and many MPs from Bangladesh, besides other distinguished luminaries from various fields.

India Foundation is now organising the 2nd Silchar- Sylhet Festival from 06 to 08 October, 2023 in the city of Sylhet, Bangladesh. The aim of the festival is to revisit the common values and shared heritage of the twin cities and their people separated by international borders. The Festival will bring together eminent people from public and social life, industrialists, artists, scholars, and practitioners from both sides to discuss and deliberate on issues of mutual growth and opportunity. In addition, the Festival will also provide a platform to explore multi-disciplinary trade opportunities in sectors such as healthcare, tourism, education, and digital infrastructure.
