Census of India 2011 & National Population Register: A Curtain Raiser

Supreme Court Advocate, Shri. Bhupender Yadav’s presentation on the problems that come with the implementation of the Census of India and the National Population register.

He says,

For both the exercise, Census and NPR being entirely different and both being governed by entirely different statutes with different purpose and objectives and such activities being carried out together may result into bane than a boon. By thus quoting a different Act, the Census can perhaps avoid the legal consequences of disclosing the individual information collected in a Census, but it cannot avoid the consequent loss of sanctity of the Census operations.
